Logitech C270 HD Webcam Review, Driver, Manual and Software – Your laptop’s webcam might be terrible. But after you spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars, you might not have more space in your budget for expensive external cameras — Logitech HD Webcam C310, a $ 32 camera that provides a 720p sharp video. Still, if you want ambient-noise rejection, full-HD video, or easier installation, you should see something a little more expensive.
The design
It’s the webcam’s job to see you, but the C310 feels like gaping. Unlike some other Logitech cameras, a 2.7-inch full camera stands out in front of the bezel on your monitor or laptop screen. The front of the camera is a gunmetal gray oval, while the back and security arms are black.
Unfortunately, the C310’s installation mechanism is less effective than the other webcams, such as the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920, in place. This webcam has a hinge with a plastic sleeve to hold it above the screen. After a bit of fiddling with it, I fastened it on my laptop, but my external monitor, which has a rounded back, proved to be a challenge. The C920 has a third section, rubber feet, which hold it tightly on every monitor I try. On top of the monitor, is the only place where you store this camera. Unlike the C920 and several other webcams, the C310 does not have a tripod mount.
The 5 foot USB cable extends from the back of the webcam, and the cable must be long enough to reach the port in most settings.
Features
C310 is suitable for Skyping with friends, but I won’t use it for streaming on Twitch or YouTube, or for teleconferences in professional settings. The picture I took with the 720p webcam is quite sharp, but it’s a bit rough. The shot that I took while sitting in our brightly lit lab caught my face and hair but didn’t make the cloth on my shirt as the C920 1080p lens did. In a pitch-black room, without a window with only light from my laptop, the picture was even more beautiful and did not capture the details in my hair or beard. More high-end models, such as the C920 and C930e, actually capture that detail, even though they are not as clear as they are in bright light.
Web cameras don’t have wide-angle lenses, so you will be the only one in the frame. The C920 lens has a field of view of 78 degrees, and while Logitech does not publish figures for the C310, it is far less extensive.
When I record video, the C310 does a poor job of filtering out ambient noise. I can clearly hear everything that is said and done by colleagues nearby, including the sound from his laptop.
Software
The Logitech bundled Webcam Software lets you control the C310 appropriately. Users can zoom in and pan in any direction to adjust the frame as they choose. This application also includes a motion detector so that you can set the webcam as a security camera. Additionally, this allows you to take photos and record videos directly to your hard drive if you do not have a separate camera application.
However, this software lacks some of the features that you get with the C920. Specifically, a series of face masks and avatars which are fun but not essential.

If you need a webcam that is sharper than the one on your laptop but doesn’t want to damage the bank, Logitech C310 HD Webcam is for you. For $ 32, it’s cheap enough to be an impulsive purchase, and you will have sharp photos and video quality, especially in good lighting.
To be better, you have to go up in price. Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 at $ 66 and offers much better image quality, enhanced ambient-noise blocking, with 1080p resolution, and a safer arm to attach to monitors and displays. But if you want something better – something better – than what is connected to your notebook, the C310 Webcam is one of the most affordable, no-frills entry points.
