Logitech G Pro Wireless Mouse Review
Design
It is a lightweight mouse, so of course, you are wondering how light it is. At only 80g, it is one of the lightest mice on the market, if not the lightest overall. Theoretically, this allows for faster mouse movements and also makes it easier to grab and spin. To put it in context, Razer Mamba Wireless is 106g, and a wired mouse like Logitech G502 runs up to 121g. So believe me; 80G is a featherweight.
Logitech achieves this by using a thinner exoskeleton, and by using a smaller than average LiPro battery that operates for a very long time. Logitech hasn’t quoted any numbers yet, but the Logitech G Hub software notes that a full charge is good for 41 hours, approx. I can use it on and off for a week, and the battery only drained by about five percent, which is incredible. You can charge the internal battery with a USB cable connected to the front of the mouse, & you can easily use it as a wired mouse while it is charging.
Features
In addition to its weight, this mouse offers several innovative features, so let’s overcome them one by one. As I said, this is an ambidextrous mouse, and Logitech allows for side buttons on both sides or none at all. In the box, there are two additional buttons and two other placeholders if you decide to delete all buttons. The buttons are lock-in place with magnets and are very fast to remove and exchange.
The following are other new and possibly controversial design decisions; The DPI mouse switch button is under the mouse. Rather than having a button behind the mouse wheel or an easily accessible place, Logitech moves it to the animal’s stomach. In a press conference about this, they only said their research told them that most people have never used it, so that would only hinder it. However, some people wanted it, so they threw it at the bottom of the mouse to make those people happy. I’m fine with this because I am one of those people who has never replaced the DPI. I have about 1,000 or more and have never touched it.
Under the hood, Pro is shaking the latest Logitech sensor, Hero16K. This sensor offers more than enough coverage for anyone, and Logitech also claims to require less power than some of the previous sensors, allowing smaller batteries and a lighter mouse. Pro communicates with USB dongles via the company’s Lightspeed wireless technology, which offers a report rate of 1 ms and also used in the G903 and G703.
Software
Logitech’s Gaming Software has become one of the best available for peripheral customization, but the company has improved itself with the new G Hub software. Easy to use, logically organized, and easy enough so anyone can use it. You can do all the usual things here, including adjusting the DPI settings (up to five settings are permitted, but you can have at least two). Changing lighting, recording and assigning macros, and more. Most drag-and-drop actions are straightforward to use. For example, if you don’t want one of your DPI tasks, you can drag it off the line in the software. Alternately you can also drag commands from the menu to your button to reassign. It is effortless to use.
The game
I have indeed used a wireless gaming mouse, but I have tasted all the usual suspects in the world of a wired gaming mouse. So I wonder if I will see the difference. How surprised I was, I really could not tell the difference. To test this particular mouse, I launched the Titanfall 2 single-player campaign and played several sessions over several days. Mouse tracking is very accurate, even to the point of my mouse hand. I have to imagine if you take a few gamers and put this mouse along with a wired mouse in the box and ask them to come in and play with it, none of them can tell which one is. That is good.
The back-and-forward button perfectly placed on the left side, but I don’t use the one on the right side, so I leave it blank. The placeholders used by the mouse are entirely flat, so I can never detect them with my fingers on the far side of the mouse. All buttons have a very satisfying taste when clicked, and the mouse wheel also uses clicks with perfect spaces that you can feel quickly. So I never go too far with it and choose weapons that I don’t want, I also feel no need to rotate them with a lot of strength. Everything feels perfect.
