Logitech K580 Slim Multi-Device Review

Logitech K580 Slim Multi-Device Review, Driver, Manual and Software  –  I was expecting something more like a home theater keyboard, with a mouse pad attached next to it. I was amazed by the slim but full-size keyboard with a numeric keypad that I pulled out of the package. It’s also heavy for its size, another thing I didn’t expect. It feels the solid stone. There is a little angle to the keyboard for ergonomics.

Design

The most distinctive feature on the first appearance is the default smartphone holder (or small tablet). Hiding under this cradle is the Logitech Unifying dongle and battery compartment. The K580 supports a maximum of two devices – one via Bluetooth and the other through a Unifying receiver.

Like everything I expect from Logitech now, this is connectivity ease. That’s why I was a little surprised that I needed some time to connect the K580 to the existing Unifying receiver. I had problems initially with my Unifying receiver, including the one that accompanied the K580. I finally finished it, and it only took a little longer plus more effort than I expected.

My Bluetooth connection to the Pixel 2XL is much more comfortable, working on the first trip. The holder at the top of the keyboard is just the place to put my cell phone. The plot is large enough to accommodate Pixel 2XL in landscape orientation, even with an official case on it. My other cellphone, Pixel OG, with its bulkier case, failed to load, so I have to take the case off, and your mileage will vary.

Performance

The K580 itself has keys like laptops that don’t require a transition from my office laptop (Toshiba) or my personal (Lenovo) to get used to. There is a slightly coarse texture to the keys, but the tone and travel feel very similar to a standard laptop keyboard. Sometimes I think that I use input devices so different that I am immune to changes. But the K580 only works, my fingers fall right where they conditioned, and I can speed up. The buttons are a little quieter than my work laptop, which is always appreciated.

K580 works very well as a Windows keyboard. I’m canceling this review now. I believe it will be the same for macOS, given the special button features for both OSes. Both of these OS have long been known, and the number is known.

So how well does it work with my Android phone? Well, that, of course, increased my typing speed and accuracy because I’m notoriously bad at efficiency despite trying lots of different keyboards. However, the thing you need to understand is that Android is a touch screen interface first and foremost. So, while the real keyboard makes it easy to type long messages in various applications, I can’t escape touching the screen to make it all work. The most bugging me is that I cannot press the enter to send messages in various applications, physically I have to touch the send button on the screen.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a complete list of keyboard shortcuts available for Android. Some universal shortcuts seem to work in most applications, such as Copy (Ctrl + C), Cut (Ctrl + X), Paste (Ctrl + V), and Select All (Ctrl + A).

Complaint

There was a pause of transition when I switched from WiFi (laptop) to Bluetooth (phone); it took several seconds before the button pressed.

I feel Logitech missed the opportunity to have an application to help with keyboard mapping. There is Logitech Keyboard Plus, which was last updated in 2015. And it only adjusts the keyboard layout if you can make it work (yes, I did make it function – almost – on Android 10).

I would love to be able to charge my cellphone while it is still in the holder. Given that 2 x AAA batteries power the K580, that would be a big dream.

The Point

The K580 has become an incredible little asset for my productivity. It allows me to quickly type messages on applications that don’t have Web support without having to drop everything all the time. Yes, I still have to press the small send button on the screen, but it’s far from having to take the accelerator and type on the virtual keyboard.

Logitech K580 is available in Graphite or Off-White, with an RRP of $ 79.95. No doubt you can shop at a lower price, and certainly worth considering for convenience. DigitalReviews would like to thank Logitech for their continued support.

The Bad

  • Keyboard feel cheap
  • Loud typing
  • Only three programmable keys
  • Limited Mac support

The Good

  • Springy typing feel
  • Super-easy setup

Conclusion > Logitech’s MK270 is one of the better choices you could make in the rock-bottom budget range because of its decent keyboard action and easy setup.
