Logitech M705 Marathon Mouse Review
Logitech M705 Driver and Software – The mouse works through plug-and-play as soon as you insert the USB dongle. But on Windows PCs, Macs and Chromebooks you can also install the SetPoint Logitech software to map the keys back to commonly used tasks such as opening applications, navigating media or use shortcuts like full-screen video. (The M705 will also work with Chromebooks, without special software.)
Design
The mouse has six additional buttons besides the standard left and right clickers above. Two directional thumb buttons on the side, there is a hidden button under the thumb pad on the left and also three separate buttons on the scroll wheel involved by clicking left, right and below.
The most excellent features on the M705 is its speed adaptive scroll wheel that allows users to switch between smooth and notched scrolls using the button above. We generally prefer to have notched wheels that navigate down click-by-click pages. But the ability to change to a scroll-free wheel is great for going back to the top of a page with a flick of a finger.
Logitech innovates further with an internal USB adapter called the Unifying Receiver. That is a fraction of the size of an ordinary flash drive and can pair up to six Logitech accessories. The battery compartment underneath has a small place to hold the dongle too, if you want to travel with it.
We cannot test this claim, but Logitech reports that two AA batteries are enough to power the M705 for up to three years. This can potentially last longer if you turn off the “power slider” after it’s done. Also, you can remove one of the batteries to save a little weight, and it will still work.
Performance
The M705 uses traditional Logitech laser technology, and I can use it without any problems on most surfaces, including skin and clothing. The only thing that made it problematic was the marble and glass table.

In the end, you can use Logitech MX Master and MX Anywhere 2, which offer more luxurious designs and rechargeable batteries. But this model can be considered a Goldilocks in the Logitech line, providing superior comfort at the right price.
The Bad > For right-handed users only
The Good > Comfortable form factor, High precision, Three years of battery life, Two buttons under the thumb, Smooth scroll wheel.
Conclusion > The Logitech M705’s adaptive laser sensor and sculpted body will make your wrist happy for less than the cost of a few lattes.
